Home Euthanasia

Our home euthanasia services are currently unavailable and we are not accepting any appointments at this time

The decision to euthanize can be one of the hardest decisions a pet owner will ever have to face.  When it comes time to say goodbye home euthanasia can be a wonderful option to consider.  Your pet's last day should not be spent stressed and scared in a crowded, noisy waiting room.  Home euthanasia helps make this difficult day as comfortable as possible for you and your pet.

We understand this is not a decision to be taken lightly or rushed.  OMVS offers in home euthanasia consultation exams to help determine if it is time to consider euthanasia.  This service includes a complete physical exam and personalized consultation to discuss quality of life and options such as hospice care, treatment, or humane euthanasia.  Please email to schedule an appointment [email protected]

OMVS does not perform convenience euthanasia.  Our doctors reserve the right to refuse euthanasia unless it is deemed medically necessary.

Care of remains options can be discussed before the appointment.  Private and general cremation options are available. With private cremation the ashes are returned to you.  Price is based on weight and includes transportation of remains by OMVS for cremation.  Please see our services page for home euthanasia and cremation pricing information.   Before our arrival please download and fill out our euthanasia authorization form and new client form if we have not seen your pet before.

Our procedure: We first administer a mild sedative to help relax your pet.  An IV catheter is then placed to help ensure medications are delivered correctly the first time.  When you are ready we administer a fast acting anesthetic agent intravenously.  This puts the pet under anesthesia and helps reduce the risk of any unpleasant muscle activity or vocalization that can sometimes accompany the administration of an euthanasia agent.  Then when you are ready the euthanasia agent is administered intravenously.  This procedure can be performed anywhere your pet is most comfortable whether it is in your house or their favorite spot in the backyard.  If you prefer not to be present the procedure can be performed in our mobile clinic.
